Buxton Festival! Floratorio

We are nearing the end of Year 5 now, time has flown so fast!!Smiley

I am really excited about our end of year performance at Buxton Festival. It's called 'Floratorio'.

We have also had our photograph  in Derbyshire Life.Have a look at the July edition!Smiley

We are going to be singing in a production of Florence Nightingale at St John's Church in Buxton on Tuesday 20th July at 1pm and 5pm.

The children have been working really hard, learning all the songs and actions. They have been lucky enough to work with some very talented musicians from Sinfonia Viva.

We have also composed our own song called March of the Dead which was completely led by the children with all of their lyrics in. It is quite amazing!

I hope that you will be able to come and see us perform. Tickets are available from the Buxton Festival box office.

If you fancy coming with us to help out during the day on the 14th (rehearsal day) or the 20th then please let me know. Any extra helping hands are always appreciated!

Book Week

 Book Week in year 5!

We have been learning about a narrative poem called

The Highwayman written by Alfred Noyes.

To get to know the poem have been doing storyboards,

hot seating, drama and character descriptions.

We have also been working on stories from other cultures,

incluiding making a big book from Bringing the rain the the Kapiti Plain.

We chose this story as it was also in the style of a poem like The Highwayman!

We did some persuasive presentations on our favourite books too!!

Jude, Sol and Alice won prizes for the most persausive presentations.

CONGRATULATIONS!Smiley

We have been very busy!Smiley It was loads of fun!

Playground Pals

Hello All,

I hope you are looking forward to the next half term! We have lots of exciting activities ahead!Smiley

Year 5 have been continuing to work hard and have recently produced poems, posters, diary entries and slogans for our Anti-Bullying week.

We have also been learning all about Playground Pals.

All of the children have trained to be a Playground Pal which means they will work in teams to ensure the playground is a calm, safe and happy place to be in during lunchtimes and breaktimes.

The children will use reasoning and listening skills to work out problems and resolve issues in a sensible and friendly manner.

I am really looking forward to seeing the Pals in action!

Happy New Year!

Hello year 5,

I hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year.

Thank you for all the wonderful pressies and cards!

A quick reminder that we need to complete and return all the silver lifestyle booklets this half term.

Also we are starting new Science and Geography topics.

Science will be The Solar System and in Geography we are Investigating Coasts!

If you have any information you would like to bring in relating to these topics please feel free.

Any research you can do at home would be fantastic too!

I look forward to another fabulous term with you all.

Take care in the snow!Smiley

Miss Kincey.

Have a fabulous Christmas everyone!!

We have had a brilliant Victorian day!

The children looked fantastic and cook and myself (Maam) thoroughly enjoyed our day.

Such well behaved and polite young children we have in year five!

All of which had a very clean turn out with excellent manners!Smiley

We made cards, mince pies, crackers, learnt about the Lion and sang carols together.

I was very impressed with the children's involvement in the day.

Here are some of the photographs from our trip to the Victorian era!

Lead up to Christmas!

Here is an update!Smiley

We have been busy bees in the last few weeks!

Lots of children have been working well and

achieving their target stamps for literacy and

numeracy, well done!

Also many children have been moved up in their

reading bands which is excellent news.

A trip to the Silk Museum to be part of a

Victorian Christmas has been one of the highlights for us all.

It was great fun.

We learnt all about school life and visited the

parlour on christmas eve.

We also made crackers and dressed up as

Victorian children!

Here are some pictures to share with you all.
